When I was a child, my brother and sister and I took turns being the one to lead our family dinner prayer. The words were, “Dear God, thank you today for food, rest, and play. Amen.”
I’ve been thinking about those words this week—especially the “play” part. It’s all too easy to get caught up in all the “serious stuff” and to forget that playing is an essential part of life.
It is interesting that Hindus, when they speak of the creation of the universe, do not call it the work of God, they call it the play of God. This Sunday, we are going to celebrate play with gusto!
