Remember the song, “Getting to Know You?” I always enjoyed singing along, even though I never really thought much about the words or their setting. The song is from the musical, The King and I. It is sung by Anna, to her students, the many children of the King of Siam.
What a beautiful context! As we begin another season and another school year, it seems a perfect theme song.
“Getting to know you, getting to know all about you…”
As an anonymous person said, getting to know someone is a beautiful process, and we pass up the opportunity to know people every day.
It is my hope that as we grow at Unity, we will provide more and more opportunities for people to get to know each other, to provide safe and nurturing and sacred space where we can practice the art of listening – to Spirit, to ourselves, and to each other – as well as that of honest sharing and exploring our deeper truths.
It is my belief that much of the world’s conflict and discord would be resolved if we took time to get to know each other.
Let’s do this!
Quote to ponder: Deep within each of us is the urge to know and to be known. It is as central to the core of our being as is the urge to dance in the sunshine or cry at weddings or sing in the shower or laugh at children or fall backward into the snow.
