My Stroke of Insight Book Study

A new book study will start on October 4th. The book is "My Stroke of Insight" by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor.  Rev. Sharon will be facilitating this six-week discussion, which will meet every Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Friendship room. Religions use (sometimes quite unconsciously) views of the science, cosmology, and even psychology of their time to help explain the human quest for the ultimate, our longing for fulfillment, our search for meaning. At this moment in history we are experiencing tremendous shifts in human self-understanding; a regular revolution in consciousness that has major implications for spirituality. This class will explore the science – spiritual relationship especially in the field of neuroscience. Our aim is to enhance our understanding of the interconnectedness of everything, and to catch the excitement and fascination that a new vision offers to our Spiritual quest. The intention of this class is not scientific, but spiritual. We will simply discuss the discoveries and theories of contemporary science without spending time addressing the methods of discovery. Our purpose is to begin to understand the changing worldview and expansion of consciousness that are emerging in our time. Our hope is to explore the role of both the brain’s left and right hemisphere and to use the personal experience presented by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor to enhance our ability to be aware of our oneness with God and each other.
