History of New Thought and Unity

What are next steps for Unity and how can I help?

I see Unity poised to play an important role in humanities continued evolution of thought. Unity’s ability to flow forward, to allow for new insights and wisdom, to metaphysically interpret scripture and literature, allows flowing changing movement in the overall Unity organization and in individual communities, such as Unity of Fort Collins. It’s inclusivity also fuels the flow, as Unity has room to include all people in its forward flow, and to be leaders in the tough, but necessary, task of bridging divisions within humanity.

For future growth, I think Unity must reach out to young people. Inclusiveness of differences in sexual orientation and gender identity and the gender spectrum are essential. I also think to connect with the spirituality of our youth, Unity must embrace and express it’s understanding of Spirit within all living beings and all of creation, and bring earth based spiritualities into its teaching (along with Eastern spiritualities as well).

Growth and change are always uncomfortable. Unity will have to manage the discomfort if it wants to keep growing and being a powerful and positive spiritual movement in human spirituality. In our current times, when Unity principals are threatened, the discomfort will be greater, as will the need for Unity to provide teaching in conflict management and crucial conversations.

The role I see myself playing is to speak out with my voice and stand up for my truth of vision, and to encourage others to do the same. I enjoy sharing my voice at Unity in multiple ways, creating and facilitating groups, sharing music and speaking. I also would like to help bring Earth spirituality into Unity’s teachings.

Well said, Anisha. Every being and organization reaches certain points where they must change to be able to survive, thrive, grow and evolve. That change can be uncomfortable even if we know it is for the best and we can no longer think "well, that's how we have always done it". Animals adapt and learn, we adapt and learn and organizations adapt and learn. That is how we grow and evolve.
