Surfing for Unity
When I surfed the internet for Unity materials, I saw that lots of other organizations are using the word, "Unity". A video game platform, an environmental group, another non-profit, a graphic arts company, etc. Too bad, I thought, because it makes it harder to find our Unity movement and messages. It was a reminder that I have always had trouble explaining what Unity is to others, who usually assume that it is the Unitarian church. I do my best as I try explain that it is something different...
I found and watched a few old "The Word from Unity" television spots, one minute each. They included television personalities from long ago: Jim Nabors, Audreuy Meadows, Wayne Rogers, Greg Morris. I was surprised that there were a lot of action- oriented featured words: "endeavor," "doing," "expectations," "friendliness". They were encouraging people to do good work and keep going.
For me, the theme of Unity has always been that "thoughts held in mind produce after their own kind." Tuning into divine or higher level thoughts and expressing them is key. Because of this, I think, words have always been important to Unity. But the ways we convey words has certainly changed dramatically. Unity no longer has a radio show or produces television spots. I hope Unity is keeping up with the rapidly changing media scene, and getting out all of those good words! And making the world a better place, as a result.
I love that aphorism, “Thoughts held in mind produce after their own kind.” It’s a catchy phrase.
I had the same experience initially when I searched for Unity. Maybe the popularity of the concept will have some effect on people’s consciousness.
