History of New Thought and Unity

Discussion Mod. 1

After completing the lessons in module 1. I found that the main common ground between Unity and traditional Christianity is that they both believe in one God. That there is a oneness of and goodness of God. Unity and traditional Christianity both use prayer. The differences are in the way that Unity prays, by using affirmative prayer and traditional Christianity uses a directive prayer, God help me/request (get a new Job, make more money or health)

In closing, I acknowledge that this was a hard question for me, having the fortune or misfortune of being unchurched. So I am sure that there are many similarities between Unity and traditional Christianity. I know of the many different religions by name, and the basics. I do not know many of the intricacies of them.

Your comment about being unchurched being possibly fortunate or unfortunate really started me thinking. Which would I consider to be a disadvantage? Having a Southern Baptist upbringing wasn’t all bad, but it wasn’t all good either. It introduced me to a lot of concepts that I questioned assiduously. I learned a lot from my own questioning and seeking. However, I also learned how judgmental, mean, downright cruel and hypocritical the world can be. I can’t decide for certain if I think my churching was advantageous. But, I know for certain that it was unpleasant and guilt inducing, even to a small innocent child. I always felt uncomfortable and out of place.

So, I don’t think you really missed anything.
